Right from inception till 30th June, 2018, 92,500 number of Candidates enrolled themselves as Advocates in the Karnataka State Bar Council. One Shri. M. Narasimhaiah of Shimoga enrolled himself as an Advocate on 9.10.1914 and his date of birth is 19.12.1888 and another Shri. Subbarao of Chikkaballapur enrolled himself as an Advocate on 21.12.1914 and his date of birth is 1.12.1877. (As per the entry on the Rolls of this Bar Council).

Prior to coming into force of the Bar Council Act, 730 Members enrolled themselves as Pleaders. In the year 1926 totally 12 Members enrolled as Pleaders. Sri. Jade Krishna Rao of Davanagere is the first person to register his name in the said year During 1947, 32 Members were enrolled as advocates, Sri. H. R. Venkataramaiah of Bangalore enrolled on 2.1.1947. Subsequently, Sri. Haranahalli Ramaswamy who served as Law Minister, Government of Karnataka enrolled as an Advocate on 5.1.1948. Totally there were 2426 advocates enrolled in this Bar Council since its inception upto 1961.

As on 30.6.2018, there are totally 25,700 number of lady advocates on the Rolls of this Bar Council. Smt. D. T. Mayamma of Bangalore was first lady to enroll herself as an Advocate on 31.8.1950. Subsequently one Smt. Sharada. P of Bangalore was enrolled on 5.2.1961. One Smt. R. Lalithamma of Bangalore enrolled on 16.10.1952 is still practicing

Among the elected members of the Bar Council, some members were designated as Senior Advocates by the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka viz., Shriyuths B. V. Acharya, P. Vishwanath Shetty, Jayakumar. S. Patil, A. B. Patil, Smt. T. N. Manjula Devi, Smt. Pramila . M. Nesargi, Shri. Yoga Narasimha, Shri. Y.R. Sadasiva Reddy.

Smt. Pramila. M. Nesargi was the 1st lady Advocate elected as Member to the Bar Council. Later Smt. Manjula Devi. T.N. and Smt. Sandhya B. Madinur were elected as Members to the Karnataka State Bar Council.

Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund Act, 1983 came into force w.e.f. 1.11.1986 and was optional. The said Act was made compulsory with effect from 2nd April, 1997. From time to time the said Act is amended. The recent amendment came into effect from 12th June, 2017. According to the said amendment

IMPORTANT NOTE : An amount of Rs. 10000/- will be deducted for each year of non payment of subscription.

There are total number of 86,893 members are enrolled in Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund Scheme. So far this Bar Council has provided financial assistance of Rs.28,66,40,800 from 6th August, 2010 till 10th June, 2017 to the Members of the bereaved family in respect of 1480 Advocates, Rs. 9,01,30,350/- towards Retirement Claim made by 333 number of Advocates and Rs. 2,97,47,000/- towards medical assistance in respect of 404 Advocates from out of the Karnataka Advocates Welfare Fund.

After Amendment to KAWF Act No.12/2017 w.e.f 12/6/2017, this Bar Council has provided assistance of Rs.,3,90,60,750/- in respect of 141 applications.

Similarly, the Bar Council of India Advocates’ Welfare Fund will provide Medical Assistance to the advocates.

Every year nearly about 250 – 300 complaints under Sec. 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961are received by the Bar Council. Nearly 200 – 250 cases are disposed off by the Bar Council every year. Disciplinary Committee had disposed nearly 300 cases and more than 20 Advocates are punished.
